Also known as “double-sash windows,” these are the cousin to Single Hung windows but provide additional ventilation due to the ability to open both “sashes.” These are superior to Single Hung windows due to airflow because heat rises and escapes through the top sash while cooler air can circulate through the lower sash. This “breathability” makes Double hung windows an excellent option for two-story homes.
These windows are known best for their upward and downward sash movement. The system uses pulleys and weights to help the sashes remain in one location without slamming shut.
A balance system is within the side jambs of the structure, with a bottom and top pocket for each window sash to securely fit when you open your windows.
Double-hung windows also include a weather seal to improve the insulation with water drainage capabilities.
